ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 2.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The aim of the course is to consolidate knowledge and skills in the methodology of literary studies, review positions and methodological schools from the anti-positivist breakthrough to postcolonial studies.

Full description:

The material covers the basics of general knowledge in the field of modern literary studies, including: semiological approach to a literary work, problems of the sociology of literature and historical poetics, phenomenology in the concept of a work of art; ergocentric trends: from "the art of interpretation" to "thematic criticism", structural-semiotic literary studies, comparative literary studies, deconstructionism in literary theory, poststructuralism and postmodernism, postmodern mimesis. We will also deal with issues of feminist criticism and proposals for postcolonial theory.

15 hours - current preparation 0.5 ECTS

15 hours - preparation for the final credit 0.5 ECTS

Learning outcomes:

The student knows and understands:

advanced terminology and methodology of literary studies K1_W02,

connections of philological studies and their connections with other scientific disciplines K1_W03 at an advanced level.

The student is able to:

use theoretical approaches appropriate for Ukrainian literature K1_U04,

formulate and solve a research task in the field of Ukrainian literary studies K1_U06,

independently plan and implement their own lifelong learning K1_U11.

The student is ready to critically assess his knowledge and received content K1_K01.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Conditions for admission to the final credit test:

- preparation for classes

- presence

Attendance at classes is a prerequisite for passing the course/taking the exam (according to the Regulations of Studies at the University of Warsaw)

The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires a justification. The lecturer decides about recognizing the absence.

The form of crediting classes for which the student was absent is determined by the lecturer.

Exceeding excused and unexcused absences for 50% of classes may be the basis for failing the course.

Completion of the course is in the form of a written test (5 closed questions and 5 open questions). The assessment criteria are presented in the form of percentage thresholds:

60% - 65% - 3 (sufficient grade)

66% - 70% - 3+ (sufficient plus)

71% - 80% - 4 (good grade)

81% - 90% - 4+ (good plus grade)

91% - 98% - 5 (very good)

99% -100% - 5 ! (very good with an exclamation mark)

The following criteria are used for crediting:

- achievement of the assumed learning outcomes covering all relevant aspects - 5.0 (very good grade)

- achievement of the assumed learning outcomes covering all relevant aspects with a small number of errors or inaccuracies - 4.5 (good plus grade)

- achievement of the assumed learning outcomes, omitting some (less important) aspects - 4.0 (good grade)

- achievement of the assumed learning outcomes with the omission of some significant aspects and with significant inaccuracies - 3.5 (sufficient plus)

- achievement of the assumed learning outcomes omitting important aspects or with serious inaccuracies - 3.0 (sufficient plus)

- failure to achieve the assumed learning outcomes - 2.0 (unsatisfactory grade)

The conditions of the retake credit are the same as the credits on the main date.
