ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 2.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The aim of the course is to practice skills relating to listening, speaking, reading, writing and assimilating and expanding language competencies in accordance with the requirements set for the B2/C1 level of the CEFR.

Full description:

The main focus of the course is the cognitive and communication needs of students and their plans to acquire qualifications necessary for their future profession or to live and work in countries where the language they are studying is spoken. During the course, the student will acquire the ability to fluently and spontaneously communicate in Russian. In addition, they will learn to write and speak clearly on a wide range of topics, and to explain their position on the matters being discussed, considering the pros and cons of different ideas. The student will work on the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, and acquire practical knowledge in the fields of Russian vocabulary, grammar and phonetics.

The student's workload:

contact hours (in class) - 30 hours

preparing for classes - 15 hours

preparation for exam - 15 hours

total: 60 hours - 2 ECTS

If it is not possible to conduct classes on university premises, classes shall be held with the aid of distance learning tools recommended by the University of Warsaw (Zoom, Google Classroom).

Learning outcomes:

After completing the course, the student will be able to:

- speak and understand the Russian language, both written and spoken, at B2/C1 level according to CEFR (K2_W11)

- debate on advanced topics (K2_U08)

- plan and implement their own lifelong learning (K2_U11)

- organise team work (K2_U12)

- communicate in Russian, both spoken and written, at the B2/C1 level according to CEFR (K2_U14)

- responsibly perform professional roles and take care of their own development, taking into account changing social needs (K2_K03)

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Requirements for getting a credit for the subject in order to sit the final exam:

- attendance

- being prepared for classes

- passing tests

- giving a presentation

The course ends with a written exam.

Criteria for assessing tests and the written exam (percentage thresholds):

99-100% - 5!

93-98% - 5

87-92% - 4+

77-86% - 4

70-76% - 3+

60-69% - 3

The final grade consists of: a mark for the work done during the semesters (30%) and the final exam grade (70%).

The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, and each subsequent one requires an explanation to be given. The teacher decides how the student will make up for any other unjustified absences. If the number of absences is equal to or exceeds 50% of the total number of contact hours, it may result in a negative grade for the course.

In the event of failing to pass the course or the exam during the initial exam period, the student must pass the course and take the exam during the retake exam period.
