ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 2.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

One should have basic knowledge on translation and languages on proper level.

Short description:

The classes are designed so that the students can master translation techniques. The target degree to which a translation technique

is mastered should be such that enables the student to work on their own on developing their translation competence, both in the remit of

texts.

Full description:

The classes are designed so that the students can master basic translation techniques of different texts (newspapers, law, scientific ets.) . Course shows differents materials and support.

The classes have to show translator's and interperter's work in practice and different types of documents: judical documents, official, science, medical documentation.

During classes students will also practise oral translation.

The aim of the classes is to show how translators work look like and aquaint with materials.

The estimated total number of hours that a student will need to achieve the learning outcomes defined for the course:

organised hours - 2 hours a week = 30 hours

student's individual work - 20 hours, final test preparation - 10 hours = 30 hours

Learning outcomes:

K2_W01 - student knows terminology ang methodology of linguistis studies at high level.

-K2_W03 - knows the difficulties and meaning of philological studies and connection with other disciplines.

-K2_W05 - knows the translatoric theory and translation technics

K2_W08 - know Ukrainian language at level C2

K2_U03 - student is able to find sources and information, analyze and interpret information

K2_UO3 - is able to choose proper methods in Ukrainian language studies

K2_UO7 - is able to communicate on scientific topics with different groups

K2_U12 - is able to talk on specific topic choosing proper technics.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Conditions for passing the subject and admission to the final exam:

- presence and activity during classes - 30%

- quality of translations - 40%

- final test - 30%

Subject end with a test.

Written exam - the assessment criteria are presented in the form of interest thresholds (points obtained from the written exam)

60% - 68% - 3 (satisfactory)

69% - 77% - 3+ (rated satisfactory plus)

78% - 85% - 4 (good)

86% - 91% - 4+ (good plus)

92% - 97% - 5 (very good)

98% -100% - 5! (Very good with an exclamation mark)

Attendance at classes is mandatory. The student is entitled to 3 unexcused absences. Each additional absence requires the student to submit justification. The recognition of the absence is left to the teacher's discretion.

If the total number of unexcused and excused absences is more than half of the total number of class hours, this could be the basis for failure of the course.
