The course is aimed at people who have chosen a linguistic specialization.

The main aim of the course is to familiarize students with the subject of onomastic research, with particular emphasis on the historical and contemporary Polish and Ukrainian anthroponymy, including Polish-Ukrainian linguistic relationships reflected in the old personal nomenclature.

Subject, history and main directions of development of onomastics.

Proper names theory.

History of research on anthroponymy in Poland and Ukraine. Polish and Ukrainian anthropology with particular emphasis on the history of shaping and the characteristics of individual nomenclature categories.

The specificity of the anthroponymic system in the borderland and the issue of linguistic interference reflected in the name of this area.

Etymologies of proper names.

Estimated number of hours that a student should spend on achieving the learning outcomes defined for the subject - 60 hours. (2 ECTS):

organized hours - 30 hours

student's independent work - 15 hours

preparation for the final test - 15 hours

After completing the course, the student:

1. knowledge

- knows and understands in depth research in the field of Ukrainian and Polish onomastics (K2_W01)

- knows and understands to a greater extent the relationship of onomastic research and its complex relationships with other fields of science and scientific disciplines such as: history of culture and societies, history of religion in the Polish and Ukrainian language area, history of the Ukrainian / Polish language knows and understands to a greater extent the history of the formation of the Polish and Ukrainian anthroponymic system and Polish-Ukrainian language interferences reflected in the names of both languages ​​(K2_W03)

2. skills

- can select sources in the field of Polish and Ukrainian onomastics, use the information they contain critically and creatively (K2 _U01)

- can use appropriate methods and research tools used in onomastics, preparing written papers or oral presentations on Polish and Ukrainian onomastics (K2_U03)

- can formulate and check hypotheses related to onomastic research (K2_U05)

- is able to communicate on selected topics in the field of Polish and Ukrainian onomastics with diverse audiences (K2_U07)

3. social competences

- is ready to critically evaluate his knowledge and received content in the field of Polish and Ukrainian onomastics

(K2_K01).

Conditions for admission to the final credit with a grade:

- attendance

- individual research project (etymologization and analysis of the structure of selected anthroponymic units) in the form of a presentation.

The evaluation criteria for the final written credit, which is a test in the form of open tasks, checking the acquired knowledge, are presented in the form of percentage thresholds:

99% -100% - 5! (Very good rating with an exclamation mark)

96% - 98% - 5 (very good)

87% - 95% - 4+ (good plus)

78% - 86% - 4 (good)

69% - 77% - 3+ (satisfactory plus)

60% - 68% - 3 (satisfactory)

The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires a justification. The method of making up for the remaining unexcused absences is determined by the teacher.

Exceeding excused and unjustified absences for 50% of classes may be the basis for failing the course.

Rules for taking a make-up test:

In the event of failing to pass the course by the last class of the semester, the student must pass the course and get a mark

during the initial exam period or the retake exam period.
