Students should be interested in the political, economic and religious history of Belarus.

Short description:

The subject of the lessons is the history of Belarus in the 9th-early 20th centuries. With a special emphasis on political, social, religious and economic processes. The subject represents the history of Belarus from antiquity to the ending of the Second World War, with a special focus on political, ethnic, military and religious issues. Much attention is paid to the development of state processes (the Slavic states, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania). The influence of other countries on the development of Belarusian lands is discussed. It also analyzes the historical development of the Belarusian people and the process of the formation of this nation, its national consciousness and statehood.

The course will discuss the following topics:

- The name of the country and people. Ethnogenesis of Belarusians.

- The first states in Belarus.

- Creation of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and participation in the process of the Belarusian lands.

- External and internal policy of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

- The state and territorial-administrative system of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

- Polish-Lithuanian unions.

- The religious situation in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

- Politics of Russia on the Belarusian lands.

- Revolutionary movements in Belarus in 19 and 20 centuries.

- The birth of the Belarusian national movement. The first Belarusian organizations and parties.

- Proclamation and functioning of the Belarusian statehood.

- Belarus in the USSR in 1922-1939.

- Belarusian minorities in Poland (1921-1939).

- Belarus during the Second World War

The teacher reserves the right to make certain changes in the curriculum.
