  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;

  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;

Prerequisites (description):

The student should show interest in knowledge about modern Belarus, in particular about its political, economic and cultural development.

Short description:

The subject of the course is the recent history of Belarus with a special emphasis on political, national, social, religious and economic processes taking place in the 20th century.

Full description:

1. Post-war Stalinism in the BSSR (1944-1959 gg.).

2. Armed anti-communist resistance movement in 1944-1953.

3. Belarus in 1953-1985: Political, economic and cultural characteristics

4. Dissident movement and anti-communist opposition in the BSSR.

5. Gorbachev's "Restructuring." Obtaining independence of Belarus.

6. Political and territorial-administrative system. Political parties and organizations.

7. Domestic policy of the Republic of Belarus (1991-1994).

8. Domestic policy of Belarus (after 1994).

9. Foreign Policy of Belarus.

10.Pressa, mass media, mass media. Science and education.

11. The Belarusian Diaspora in the 20th Century.

12. National and religious composition.

13. Polish-Belarusian relations. Poles in Belarus and Belarusians in Poland.

14. Security policy and armed forces. State ideology and historical policy.

15. Tourist attractions.

The teacher reserves the right to make certain changes in the curriculum.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

The teacher prefers the following ways of working with students:

- lectures

- conversations on selected topics

- Presentations (followed by discussion in the group) by students of articles on specific aspects of the subject

To receive treatment, the following elements are necessary:

1) Compulsory attendance. Possible number of absences: two unreasonable during the semester. Other omissions must be confirmed by medical leave.

2) Activities during the discussion of topics.

3) Oral examination in the subject area and reading.
