Short description:	Aim of the course is to familiarise students with functions and the role of the image in culture. Based on the interdisciplinary visual studies various aspects of images in culture will be clarified and explained, with the special emphasis on the anthropological perspective.
Full description:	During the course students will consider the issues related to the image in culture as seen from the anthropological perspective, with particular emphasis on photography and ways of functioning of the photographic image in contemporary culture (especially in the new contexts related to violence, terrorism, etc.). An integral part of the course are power point presentations and film screenings prepared by the lecturer. Discussion is based on selected literature proposed by the lecturer and given to students. The course will begin with introducing students to the complexity of the reflection related to image (anthropology of the image as a result of meeting different research perspectives, with an overview of the most important, selected concepts).
Bibliography:	Complete list of the useful publications and the literature proposal (as well as the course schedule) will be provided to students at the beginning of the semester. The course is based upon Polish language books and articles (non-Polish language materials are presented in translation to Polish).
Learning outcomes:	(in Polish) WIEDZA: Student zna oraz rozumie problematykę obrazu i wizerunku w kulturze Student zna i rozumie nurty w badaniach nad obrazowością (problematyka, badacze, szkoły, narzędzia badawcze antropologii obrazu) UMIEJĘTNOŚCI: Student potrafi posługiwać się terminologią i pojęciami, które dotyczą wybranych wizerunków i przedstawień Student potrafi rozpoznać formę i treść przedstawienia (obrazu) wizualnego oraz określić jego charakter Student potrafi przeprowadzić analizę i interpretację wizerunku, obrazu, wyobrażenia wizualnego z uwzględnieniem kontekstu medialnego, uwarunkowań percepcyjnych KOMPETENCJE SPOŁECZNE: Student ma świadomość złożoności zjawisk wizualnych (głównie medialnych) w kontekście antropologii obrazu Student krytycznie odnosi się do stanowisk badawczych i formułuje własną opinię w dyskusji i w ramach innych form wypowiedzi
Assessment methods and assessment criteria:	(in Polish) Zaliczenie na ocenę (w formie ustnej). Na zajęciach z przedmiotu prowadzona jest kontrola obecności, dozwolone są dwie nieobecności nieusprawiedliwione w semestrze. Aktywność na zajęciach jest punktowana. Studenci zobowiązani są do przygotowywania lektur i czynnego uczestnictwa w zajęciach. Zajęcia opierają się na dyskusji, rozmowie, mają kształtować umiejętności związane z interpretowaniem zjawisk, argumentowaniem.
