Full description:

The course presents a contrastive analysis of Polish and English in the area of phonetics and phonology. It has a practical bias because it views the study of the two languages from the perspective of teaching English as a foreign language to native speakers of Polish. The central topic i phonological interference and the theory of pronunciation errors. The course surveys the sounds of English and Polish, their phonotactics and the phonological processes that take part in language interference. These include, among other things, voice assimilation and devoicing, allophonic processes, palatalization, assimilation processes and syllable structure processes.
