The classes serve to familiarize students with various tendencies in French (or Francophone) literature in a cross-sectional and interdisciplinary perspective.

Short description:

The classes serve to familiarize students with various tendencies in French literature of the 20th and 21st centuries. The work will consist in reading and analyzing literary works (and auxiliary critical and historical-literary texts) and discussing them. Literary texts will serve as a starting point for reflections on selected phenomena and processes in contemporary French society and in the latest humanities.

Full description:

The aim of this literary seminar is to familiarize students with the works of Georges Perek (1936-82), one of the most important French writers of the second half of the 20th century. Selected works by Perek will be juxtaposed with the works of other authors and artists who influenced and influenced him . The classes will allow for reflection on issues important to Perek, such as: (Jewish) identity, attitude to (literary) tradition, formal explorations, aesthetics of everyday life, etc.

Learning outcomes:

Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:

1. determining the chronology of literary phenomena in the 20th and 21st centuries,

2. analysis of selected themes and aspects of a literary work,

3. comparisons of authors or texts,

4. establishing connections between individual literary phenomena at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries.

K_W01: the student knows the place and importance of the humanities, especially literary studies, in the system of sciences and their subject and methodological specificities;

K_W02: knows and understands the terminology of general and French literary studies;

K_W05: knows and understands the main issues in general and French literary studies;

K_U03: the student is able to recognize, analyze and interpret different types of cultural products (language, literature), using adequate terminology and appropriate research methods and tools;

K_U04: he/she is able to present his/her own views, referring to various sources and basic theoretical approaches, and argue the adopted point of view:

K_U05: can plan and prepare oral speeches in French and Polish, referring to basic theoretical approaches appropriate to literary studies;

K_U06: is able to prepare a written paper, in Polish, referring to basic theoretical approaches appropriate to literary studies;

K_U09: can independently acquire knowledge and develop skills, using various sources;

K_U10: is able to work in a group, including in a multicultural context;

K_K01: the student is ready to critically evaluate his own knowledge and skills;

K_K04: is ready to care about cultural heritage, especially in relation to French and Francophone culture.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

– attendance is obligatory (2 absences are allowed),

– paper,

– assessment of participation in class discussions,

- knowledge of the indicated readings,

– possible written tests during the semester,

– written work prepared in consultation with the lecturer,

– oral exam in the session.
