Short description:

The aim of the exercises is to reflect on the content introduced during the psychology lecture for teachers and to elaborate selected psychology issues through discussion inspired by the indicated reading and examples from real school situations.

Full description:

The aim of the exercises is to reflect on the content introduced during the psychology lecture for teachers and to elaborate selected psychology issues through discussion inspired by the indicated reading and examples from real school situations. Further issues: Psychology as a science serving in the work of a language teacher. The role and duties of the teacher as a person directing students' learning and as an educator; psychological difficulties of the teacher's role and professional burnout; coping with stress; student as a subject of learning - cognitive and meta-cognitive competences, the syndrome of inadequate school performance; student as a member of the group - popularity and position in the group, acceptance and rejection by peers; student in subsequent stages of life - needs, challenges, crises and problem behaviors of the student and educational difficulties; the family as a system and as the environment of primary socialization; interactive approach to upbringing in the family; factors influencing the perception of the student by the teacher and the teacher by students, building the teacher-student relationship and the role of communication in this process; cooperation of the teacher with parents, other teachers and the school psychologist (with a psychological and pedagogical counseling centre).

A detailed exercise program will be given at the first class.

Learning outcomes:

After completing the course, the student knows and understands:

1. basic concepts of psychology (B.1.W.1)

2. differences in intelligence, temperament, personality and cognitive style (B.1.W.1)

3. the process of student development in childhood, adolescence and early adulthood: physical, motor and psychosexual development, development of cognitive processes (thinking, speech, perception, attention and memory), socio-emotional and moral development) (B.1.W2. )

4. disharmony and developmental disorders in students, behavioral disorders (B.1.W2.)

5. theory of social perception and communication: social behavior and its determinants, stereotypes, prejudices, stress and coping with it (B.1.W3.)

6. learning process: learning models, learning difficulties, their causes and strategies for overcoming them, barriers and difficulties in the communication process (B.1.W4.)

7. issues of self-reflection and self-development: teachers' own resources, stress and teacher burnout (B.1.W5.)

After completing the course, the student is able to:

1. observe the developmental processes of primary school students (B.1.U1.)

2. observe social behavior and its determinants (B.1.U2.)

3. communicate effectively and consciously (B.1.U3.)

4. communicate in a conflict situation (B.1.U4.)

5. recognize the barriers and difficulties of primary school students in the learning process (B.1.U5.)

6. identify the needs of primary school students in the development of talents and interests (B.1.U6.)

7. deal with stress (B.1.U7.)

Upon completion of the course, the student is ready to:

1. self-reflection on their own professional development (B.1.K1.)

2. use the acquired psychological knowledge to analyze pedagogical events typical for primary school (B.1.K2.)

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

The final grade for the course consists of the results of 2 partial tests.

One of the requirements for passing is to prepare 2 presentations on the "myths" of popular psychology.

It is mandatory to carefully read the texts discussed during the classes. Failure to read the text before class is equivalent to absence. At the beginning of each class, short (10 min.) written tests can be conducted to check whether the participants have read the obligatory texts.

Allowable number of absences: 2.
