ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 2.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

Participants present articles on translation techniques in the form of short papers. Students prepare a translation of short fragments of various texts, which is discussed together. Fragments of translations are also analyzed, highlighting the grammatical, semantic-pragmatic and cultural phenomena they contain. Translation evaluation criteria are discussed. A term paper is obligatory - an independent translation into Polish of a short text (e.g. popular science, journalistic) and the assessment of a similar translation by another student.

Learning outcomes:

After completing this course,

1. the student knows:

K_W09 - significantly detailed principles of analysis and interpretation of texts belonging to different styles of the French language.

K_W07 - significantly the functions of the language and the social and cultural aspects of its use in diverse, including atypical communication situations, including intercultural communication.

2. the student is able to:

K_U05 - recognize, analyze and interpret various types of cultural products (language, literature), using adequate and complex terminology and appropriate research methods and techniques.

K_U02 - use, in research, complex research skills, including capacity of analysis, formulation of hypotheses, selection of research methods and techniques, as well as development and presentation of results when preparing own work in linguistics and literary studies.

K_U03 - independently acquire knowledge and plan own learning, direct others in this area, and develop complex skills using a variety of sources....

3. the student is ready to:

K_K01 - critically evaluate their own knowledge and skills, as well as make modifications and corrections of attitudes and behavior.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Credit based on attendance, papers along with their extensive summary prepared and sent earlier to other participants of the classes, and the term paper.

The work should be handed over two weeks before the end of classes.

Three unexcused absences are allowed.
