Cultural Anthropology in Iberian and Ibero-American world

Basic general knowledge concerning Spain and Spanish-speaking countries.

Classroom

The course introduces students to selected theoretical issues and basic terminology of cultural anthropology. Its aim is to show the main tendencies, analytical and interpretive perspectives of research and basic notions in anthropological studies in relation to phenomena of Iberian and Ibero-American cultures, and help to develop the methodological tools which will allow students to carry out their own analysis of cultural phenomena.

The aim is to introduce the student to selected basic research perspectives, theoretical issues and terminology in the field of cultural anthropology in the context of their practical application in the analysis of cultural phenomena of the Iberian world, both in the past and today.

The material will be organized thematically (not chronologically) o present to students broadly analytical notions and perspectives of study and give them tools to analyze various cultural phenomena of the contemporary world. Special attention will be given to critical reading of theoretical texts and reflection on possibilities and limitations that imply the use of given theories.In the classes we will also use additional visual and audiovisual materials.

The student knows basic terminology of the field of research covering selected areas of culture and religion studies specific to Iberian studies; basic aspects of cultural studies of Spanish-speaking countries. (K_W01; K_W03).

The student is able to read and understand theoretical texts from the field of cultural and religious studies; present their views, opinions, discuss, present prepared issues on topics related to cultural and religious studies; recognize different kinds of texts and place them in a general historical and cultural context of the studied region (Iberian Peninsula/Latin America), as well as analyse them using basic terminology and methods characteristic for the cultural and religious studies; independently acquire knowledge and develop skills using appropriate sources from selected areas of cultural and religious studies relevant to Hispanic studies (dictionaries, encyclopedias, audio-visual sources, source texts, monographic studies, etc.); write and edit an essay on topics from selected areas of cultural and religious studies, related to Hispanic studies, using appropriate methods and sources; prepare oral presentations using appropriate methods and sources in the fields of cultural and religious studies relevant to Hispanic studies; use basic terminology in cultural studies and other fields relevant to Hispanic studies (K_U01; K_U02; K_U03; K_U04; K_U05; K_U06; K_U07).

The student is capable of critical assessment of their knowledge and skills, independent and autonomous work, and understands the need for improvement and lifelong learning; planning and organizing work, entrepreneurship and team collaboration, and compliance with professional ethics; active participation in the culture of the studied regions using various forms and media and to work in a team performing various roles; being informed about current processes and phenomena occurring in the culture of Spanish speaking countries.
