ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 5.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The course surveys the description of Brazilian Portuguese consonants and vowels, including the phonemic and allophonic transcription, including regional varieties of Brazilian Portuguese.

Assuntos abordados:

1. Estudo dos sons com função comunicativa: fonologia.

2. Unidades de análise fonológica e estudo dos fonemas.

3. Análise fonêmica, fonação e aparelho fonador.

4. Descrição e representação fonética/ fonológicas/ vogais/ semivogais e consoantes, de acordo com a nomenclatura gramatical brasileira.

5. Encontros vocálicos.

6. Diferenças entre a nasalização e a nasalidade.

7. Estudo dos metaplasmos.

Learning outcomes:

Upon graduation the student knows:

- basic terminology of phonetics and phonology, as well as its sources and applications on an advanced level in the Polish and Brazilian Portuguese language

- research methodology in phonetics and phonology

- the rules relating to linguistic competence necessary to conduct a professional analysis and interpretation of different registers and funcional styles within the Brazilian Portuguese on an advanced level.

- determinants necessary in the professional analysis of linguistic, cultural and historical processes regarding Brazil.

Upon graduation the student is able to:

- search, analyse, evaluate, select and use information using various sources and methods

- use basic theoretical approaches, research paradigms and concepts specific to the discipline in phonetics and phonology.

Upon graduation the student is capable of:

- lifelong learning

- broadening their knowledge and learning skills in Brazilian Portuguese phonetics, continuous personal development, self-assessment of their own competences and skills improvement
