ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 5.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

The aim is to prepare Students to participate in classes maintained within the scope of the philological studies programme, conducted in Spanish.



Short description:

The program implemented in class is elaborated in order to help students develop the most important language skills enabling studies in Spanish. Within this framework, there should be acquired a wide scope of skills in communication, grammar, oral and written language. An important aspect of learning is also shaping the phonological sensitivity of course participants and contributing to the increase of their knowledge about the culture of the Spanish language area.

The high degree of correctness required in philological studies and the need to relate acquired language skills to the academic context of their further use, implies that the first year student develops his ability to understand such texts and statements in Spanish, whose style, subject matter and level of complexity require the recipient to shape his linguistic sensibility.

Full description:

First year students reach higher intermediate level after the second semester. This is the minimum level acquired by those of them who start their studies as beginners in Spanish.

After the second semester of the first year, the student:

I. is an active recipient of statements related to everyday life, culture and the current national and international events; understands their main sense and finds in them specific information in order to reproduce it or formulate the answer;

II. understands informational texts as well as those maintained within the scope of the subjects studies, as well as the student’s intellectual and artistic interests; can find by herself/ himself among the available sources texts in which the reflection is maintained on an academic level; reads with comprehension selected literary texts;

III. is able to maintain writing correspondence, especially to write private letters; fills out surveys and forms;

IV. communicates in typical situations, when the exchange of opinions concerns personal life, studies, interests; presents his opinion in ideological discussions and is able to refer to current socio-cultural events; can take part in the conversation resorting to the help of a co-interlocutor, if necessary, but is also able to maintain it by herself/ himself;

V. prepares descriptions of states, activities and events (in past tenses); writes essays on given topics, using elements of the academic register;

VI. is aware of the specificity of the Spanish language as compared to Polish; recognizes differences in syntax, those concerning registres and concept range;

VII. learns to understand the importance of style and tone of a given text or statement as a whole, for the interpretation of its individual fragments;

Learning outcomes:

Knowledge:

The student knows:

- terminology in the fields of vocabulary, morphology and syntax of Spanish corresponding to its use at a level exceeding the basic knowledge (K_W03);

Abilities:

The student knows how to:

- use, while reading texts from beyond the begginer's level, both the knowledge acquired and the ability to use the context clues (K_U01);

- express the subjectively important and abstract content in Spanish (K_U02);

- use texts of culture destined to Spanish-speaking people in language learning (K_U03);

- choose texts and exercises that will combine the function of consolidating knowledge and stimulating its further development, also among sources created wholely in Spanish (K_U04);

- write a text that meets the grammatical, semiotic and aesthetic requirements for the students of the 2nd semester of the 1st year of studies, on a humanistic topic provided by the teacher (K_U05):

- work on the appropriate pronunciation using the teacher's advice and model recordings that show the phonetic and phonological varieties of Spanish (K_U06);

- refer to and correct the mistakes made by using appropriate grammatical categories and rules (K_U07);

- put in practise the knowledge of the use of the Spanish language at a level beyond the basic, to realize activities resulting from the specificity of philological studies (K_U08);

Social competences:

The student is capable of:

- selecting linguistic elements to build non-schematic statements (K_K01);

- conducting discussions in an engaged manner, managing linguistic sources destined to show respect and interest for the interlocutors (K_K02);

- participating actively in classes conducted in Spanish by representatives of the cultural world of the Spanish-speaking countries (K_K03);

- independent reading of journalistic and academic articles on the contemporary culture of Spanish-speaking countries, overcoming emerging difficulties thanks to the awareness of the communal nature of participation in the world of culture (K_K04);

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

The first condition of passing the course is a positive evaluation of the student’s classwork during the semester: it is necessary to get the minimum of 65% of the points possible to achieve.

The evaluation criteria include: attendance and activity in classes (25%), test results (50%) and grades for essays written during classes (25%).

The second condition is obtaining a positive result of the final examination in a written and oral form (it is necessary to obtain 65% of points in both parts), or only oral if the examination is to be held online.

Detailed assessment criteria, resulting from the framework proposed by the lecturer, as well as from the formula of the classess indicated by the University's Authorities, will be presented in the beginning of the II semester.

When assessing, there will be taken into account the requirement of forming student’s awareness of his/her individual level of knowledge and the understanding of the need for continuous development, as stated in the list of social competences to acquire by a student of Hispanic Studies.

Thus, there will by highly evaluated such abilities as: readiness to an independent organization of the statement's content, to understand the type of mistakes made, striving to express content of a higher level of complexity, and respecting the rules of the culture of conversation.
