The aim of the seminar is to deepen the knowledge of Spanish political literature of the Golden Age, with particular emphasis on the historical and political context and philosophical and political thought of th eepoch, and to engage PhD student in research in this field.

Full description:

The aim of the seminar is to deepen the knowledge of Spanish political literature of the Golden Age, with particular emphasis on the historical and political context and philosophical and political thought of the epoch, and to engage PhD students in research in this field. The interdisciplinary approach to research on this phenomenon will allow the PhD students to conduct an in-depth analysis of the processes taking place in the political sphere and the impact they have on literary works. The topics of the classes are related to the research interests of PhD students and may include the following topics: Spanish antimaquiavelism, tacitism, casuistry, neo-stoicism, the figure of a perfect prince, the role of a royal adviser, privado and valido, mirrors of princes and privados, political treatises, political propaganda in the literature and art of the Golden Age. During the seminar, PhD students knows the research methodology and the key developmental trends of research on Spanish political literatureon Spanish political literature of the 16th and 17th centuries, acquire competences enabling them to analyze and interpret Spanish works and write scientific texts. PhD students prepare a plan and outline of a doctoral dissertation based on the query and selected bibliography, present papers on the subject of their doctoral dissertation, discuss the results of their research and prepare subsequent chapters of the doctoral dissertation.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

The condition for passing the course is regular attendance at classes (two absences are permitted), active participation in discussions based on the selected materials, presentation of a paper related to the topic of the PhD thesis and preparation of the PhD thesis.
