Full description:

1. Introduction: methodology as a science. History of social research. The concept of paradigm.

2. The concepts of: objectives, purpose and subject of the study; research methods, techniques and tools. Types of research in social sciences.

3. The basic concepts of: research problems, variables, hypotheses, indicators. Scientific criteria in qualitative and quantitative research. Sampling.

4. Characteristics and stages of the research process.

5. Surveys.

6. Field research.

7. Interview.

8. Non-reactive research.

9. Experimental and sociometric research.

10. Online research.

11. Ethics in social research

12. Writing - research practice.

13. Summary and evaluation.

Learning outcomes:

After completing the course student has knowledge of the basic concepts of methodology, methods, techniques and research tools; has the skills to prepare and implement basic quantitative and qualitative research. The student can discuss, communicate and work in a group.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

The final grade of the course consists of the grade of the exercises (40%) and the grade of the written exam (40%) covering the basic issues discussed in the lectures (open test form): ATTENTION! Classes are compulsory. Attendance at lectures and exercises is one of the elements of the final grade (20%).

Classes have the form of a workshop, they are devoted to individual issues discussed in lectures. The emphasis is on operationalization of concepts and construction of tools. Completion of classes is based on: read literature (admission), activity and preparation of a specific task on specific issues (group work or student’s independent work).
