Short description:	Sociology of prison combines criminology and social analysis of this very special institution. The class is focused on functioning of the prison community, which in fact consist of both inmates and personnel. Students increase their knowledge on prison by discussing special features of prison as a total institution, social aspects of imprisonment, prison community, formal and informal organization of prison, hidden life of prison both for male and female, sources and distribution of power in prison, prisonization, theoretical models of analysis of prison as an institution.
