Short description: |
The subject is directed to social work student. It is assumed to be a theoretical, first of sociological with elements of politology and social psychology, introduction into the issues of community development strategies and methods – the core of the subject ‘Community development’ that social work students have in the teaching program of the III year. |

The course consists of following subject areas: 1.Local community – basic structures and processes: social relationships, social bonds, networks, groups, organizations, Gesellschaft vs. Gemeinschaft, urban and rural communities 2. Social capital – conditions and mechanisms of cooperation 3.Local civil society – voluntary organizations in local community; 4.Structures and mechanisms of local power: leadership, authority, local self-government, civic participation, governance; 5.Change in local community. |

Learning outcomes: |
Students will be able to: as far as knowledge is concerned - describe meaning of basic concepts: social relationships, social bonds, networks, groups, organizations, social capital, local civil society, self-government, leadership, community change and development - describe legal regulations concerning local self-government, voluntary organizations and their relationships as far as skills is concerned - apply basic concepts in analyzing real communities - explain community processes, in particular cooperation and influence - understand processes of community change, especially its socio-cultural and socio-economic determinants as far as attitudes is concerned - understand and recognize the meaning and value of community for quality of life of individuals and for development of a society |
