Short description: |
The program of the course will focus on the basic theoretical issues connected with the political and socio-cultural problems of migration in Poland, as a country which changed its migrant status after 1989, from the mainly emigrant state into the emigrant and immigrant state. Additionally, the consequences of emigration and immigration processes to Poland are analyzed. |

The aim of the seminar, in its theoretical part is: to present chosen international migration theories, exclusion and inclusion ways of migrant treatment by the receiving country as well as to present some issues connected with the creation of the immigrant communities on the territory of the host country. The practical part of the seminar is connected with Poland as an emigrant and immigrant country and its policy regarding : the legal status of the immigrant in the state, proper welfare acts, program of integration of the newcomers, questions connected the immigrant presence at the labour marked and crime committed by the immigrants. Besides, Polish emigration and its demographic, economic, social and cultural consequences are another analyzed subjects. Summarizing questions are connected with the demographic changes of the population and the challenges of the future transformation of the Polish nation state into the multicultural society. |

Learning outcomes: |
1. efficency in analyzing the causes of the migration and their concequences for the receiving countries and the immigrants; 2. skills in recognizing problems emerging in culturally differenciating nation state and increasing heterogenity as result of immigration; 3. stimulating the new way of thinking and solving migrant tentions in the context of postmodern pluralizm and clashes of individualism and collectivity. - 1. knowlegde of the issues according to the programme and terminology connected with the subject; 2. understanding and interpretation of the different contexts of migration movements, observation of social reality in the conditions of the fast changes; 3. expressing more resonable opinions and taking part in the discurs on the significance of comtemporary migration. |
