  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;

  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;

Short description:

The subject introduces students to the latest urban sociological theories and broad-based urban studies. Students are introduced to classical and recent theoretical approaches and also participate in field activities that enable them to develop their research skills in urban sociology.

The subject introduces students to the latest urban sociological theories and broad-based urban studies. Students are introduced to classical and recent theoretical approaches and also participate in field activities that enable them to develop their research skills in urban sociology.

Planned Topics:

1. Key concepts in urban sociology

2. Social production of space

3. Contemporary spatial segregation on the example of gentrification

4. Urbanization and suburbanization in Central and Eastern Europe

5. Urban policy

6. Sociology of spatial planning

7. Urban space evaluation and research

8. Mobility studies and traffic conflicts

9. Exclusion and marginalization in urban space
