Short description:	The subject introduces students to the latest urban sociological theories and broad-based urban studies. Students are introduced to classical and recent theoretical approaches and also participate in field activities that enable them to develop their research skills in urban sociology.
Full description:	The subject introduces students to the latest urban sociological theories and broad-based urban studies. Students are introduced to classical and recent theoretical approaches and also participate in field activities that enable them to develop their research skills in urban sociology. Planned Topics: 1. Key concepts in urban sociology 2. Social production of space 3. Contemporary spatial segregation on the example of gentrification 4. Urbanization and suburbanization in Central and Eastern Europe 5. Urban policy 6. Sociology of spatial planning 7. Urban space evaluation and research 8. Mobility studies and traffic conflicts 9. Exclusion and marginalization in urban space

Learning outcomes:	Knowledge Students will know classical and contemporary theories of urban sociology. Skills Students will be able to apply the theories of urban sociology to urban research. Competencies Students understand the main challenges of historical and contemporary urbanization. Students will be competent researchers of urban space.
Assessment methods and assessment criteria:	Written exam - 100% Activity during class will increase the final grade. Required attendance will be announced during the first class.
