  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

The course presents some selected issues in the interdisciplinary field of globalization and glocalization of some social systems, politics, economic and culture as creators of challenges and opportunities for families worldwide. The primary goal of the course is to present methodical approach to globalization and glocalization influencing families in the areas of demographic shifts, worldwide culture/media, love and intimacy transformations, migration and care chains, international violence, transnational employment and ageing.

The course presents some selected issues in the interdisciplinary field of globalization of some social systems, politics, economic and culture as creators of challenges and opportunities for families worldwide. The primary goal of the course is to present methodical approach to globalization influencing families in the areas of demographic shifts, worldwide culture, love and intimacy transformations, migration and care chains, international violence, transnational employment and ageing.

The course also aims at providing an opportunity to understand how families as (the institution and the group) are affected by globalization in the XXI century and on the other side how they reflect local considerations leading to matters and/or problems referred to as “glocal”. On the whole, the course’s unifying theme is the assessment of complex effects of globalization and glocalization (a portmanteau of globalization and localization) on contemporary families. Encompassing a wide array of matters, the course creates students an arena for a (moderated) discussion and favourable circumstances to shape their own opinion on presented issues. The course places great importance on the aspect of education for diversity of contemporary families throughout the world.

• describe mechanisms and direction of changes in the area of effects of globalization on contemporary families (skills)

• analyse statistical data results pertaining to global families with a glocal approach (skills)

• analyse variables of global families based on theoretical and empirical perspectives (knowledge/skills)

• describe significant glocal problems being experienced by contemporary families (competences)

• present and participate in discourse on global/glocal matters on basis of merit (competences)

• see the effects of globalization and put them in a local perspective – implementing a glocal lens (competences)

• active individual and in-group participation throughout the course

• own and individual work dedicated to reading and reflecting

• implementation of the requirements presented in the beginning of the course
