Short description:

The aim of the seminar is to study different approaches in the feminist theory and their application to the analysis of the social world of work. The starting point is the „Without Father and Ford” approach, which is an attempt to criticise both patriarchy and capitalism.

The feminist theories will be used to analyse the realities of postfordism – changes in work and employment in the context of prevalence of service sector, offshoring, liberalisation and privatisation of public services, neoliberal doctrine, deep changes in family patterns and new approaches to equality.

We will analyse the role of labour market and social division of labour in feminist theories in their variety – liberal and socialist.

The aim of the seminar is to study different approaches in the feminist theory and their application to the analysis of the social world of work. The starting point is the „Without Father and Ford” approach, which is an attempt to criticise both patriarchy and capitalism.

The feminist theories will be used to analyse the realities of postfordism – changes in work and employment in the context of prevalence of service sector, offshoring, liberalisation and privatisation of public services, neoliberal doctrine, deep changes in family patterns and new approaches to equality.

We will analyse the role of labour market and social division of labour in feminist theories in their variety – liberal and socialist.

In the conditions of postfordism the understaning of work and employment is crucial for feminist theory. Therefore we will study theoretical approaches to gendered structure of work, symbolic gender power and neoliberał practices, the attempt to answer if „femininity” and „masculinity” were commodified?

The seminar will be based on the careful lecture of texts concerning domestic labour, care work, paid work that will give theoretical tools. Students will learn theories and concepts concerning the social phenomena of work and gender. They will be able to produce analysis in the current economic context, understand the concept of value of work and the division into production and reproduction.

To the hours allocated for classes in the room (30h) should be added the time necessary to prepare for classes (reading, reading notes) - 4h and the time necessary to prepare for the final credit (writing a final essay) - 10h

improvement - taking into account the comments made in the thesis which failed to pass the exam
