Pierre Bourdieu (1930-2002) is the author of many works belonging to the classical literature of social sciences and humanities. He is one of the most cited sociologists, and his work Distinction is one of the best recognized sociological works. Classes will be devoted to the systematic reading of his works and discussion of the main concepts of his sociological theory. Many of Bourdieu's concepts-concepts came into circulation and became part of the universal sociological language (habitus, field, distinction, cultural intermediaries). The first class will be devoted to the changing reception and interpretation of the approach of this French author. Selected longer fragments of Bourdieu's works intended for discussion and interpretation during classes will concern his sociological perspective, school and reproduction of class inequalities, the concept of habitus and the concept of symbolic fields. In addition, among the readings there will also be works devoted to the sociogenesis of the artistic field.
