Short description: |
The aim of the seminar is to support participants in preparation of M.A. thesis devoted to the problems of social bonds, communities and differentiation in the global world. These issues will be analyzed from perspective of social theory and empirical studies. The seminar will include the following elements: choosing a topic, developing the conceptualization of research, formulating problems and hypotheses, gathering materials, preparing bibliography, mastering writing technique, presentation and discussion of chapters. |

(in Polish) Celem seminarium jest przygotowanie i wsparcie uczestników w pisaniu prac magisterskich z zakresu problematyki zróżnicowania społecznego oraz postawania wspólnot w globalnym świecie. Zagadnienia te rozpatrywane będą zarówno z perspektywy teorii socjologicznych, jak i badań empirycznych. Zajęcia obejmować będą takie zadania, jak: wybór tematu, konceptualizacja, stawianie problemów i hipotez, zbieranie materiałów, bibliografia, technika pisania pracy, prezentacja i dyskutowanie kolejnych rozdziałów. |

Learning outcomes: |
Is reflective and critical in interpreting the processes occurring in Polish as well as global society and their consequences for social attitudes and institutions Approaches the choice of a particular theoretical perspective in a reflective and critical way Can use theoretical categories and research methods in the description and analysis of social and cultural changes in modern societies, as well as their consequences Can plan and carry out a social study using advanced quantitative and qualitative methods and techniques of social research Can form an in-depth evaluation of the measures undertaken for the purpose of solving a social problem, based on knowledge and analytical skills acquired Knows how to interpret the role of culture in the life of the individual and society Can relate an academic text to the problems of social life and its empirical studies Can prepare a presentation of a selected problem or study in Polish and in a foreign language Can argue a thesis using scientific evidence Can undertake independent activity in public or personal interest Actively searches for new ways and sources to broaden his/her knowledge and improve professional competences Independently sets directions of personal development and further learning Is open to various theoretical and methodological perspectives of social research Takes responsibility for planned and performed tasks |
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
During the semester two unexcused absences of a student are allowed. There may be no more than three consecutive absences. In the event of an unsatisfactory grade, a student may proceed to final resit in a retake session. |
