  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;

  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The aim of the course is to is to introduce students to basic sociological concepts, problems and research conceptions relating to the concept of "ethnicity", especially concerning the understanding of ethnicity, ethnic groups, nations, ethnic minorities, ethnic identity, prejudice, and ethnic (racial) discrimination against) and problems of multicultural societies.

The aim of the course is to is to introduce students to basic sociological concepts, problems and research conceptions relating to the concept of "ethnicity", especially concerning the understanding of ethnicity, ethnic groups, nations, ethnic minorities, ethnic identity, prejudice, and ethnic (racial) discrimination against) and problems of multicultural societies. Analysis of particular social phenomena is coupled with the presentation of the areas where particular research approaches are used. Research methods preferred within particular research paradigms are also discussed. The total number of working hours required for the achievement of the set learning outcomes includes:

1) Participation in lectures = 15 x 2 academic hours;

2) Required reading and text analysis = 15 x 2 academic hours;

Total = 60 academic hours

Learning outcomes:

Knows and understands basic sociological concepts

Has basic knowledge about local, domestic and international institutions and the problems of European integration

Has awareness of various forms of social organization existing in the past and in the present

Has basic knowledge about the mechanisms of social group dynamics and interdependencies between groups and individuals

Is aware of the importance of the social group in building man’s identity

Has basic knowledge about cultural diversity of Poland and the modern world

Has basic knowledge of methods used in research on cultural diversity

Has basic knowledge of problems stemming from the cultural diversity of modern society

Understands the specificity of sociological analysis

Can use basic sociological terms and categories to analyze societies, particularly contemporary Polish society

Can independently find facts and materials needed to conduct simple sociological analyses, using various sources in both Polish and a foreign language, and using modern technologies

Can form judgments on motives of human behavior and predict its social consequences

Respects opinions of other people, for instance those expressed in a group discussion

Is aware of the consequences of ongoing projects
