This seminar should be treated as an introductory seminar for the preparation of the MA paper in sociology. Such important problems of sociology will be discussed: nation/nationalism problematic, stereotypes, civic society, connections of ideas of political philosophy with the civil rights, and also the democracy understanding and problems, concerned with it. I suppose the problems of theory of social change will be add to it, especially the processes of change in XX and XXI age, It will be proper base to analyze and understand the gender issues and changing views on the non-heteronormative persons and also the problems of actual populism. Part of seminar will be devoted to the technical problems how to prepare MA thesis.

This seminar should be treated as an introductory seminar for the preparation of the MA paper in sociology. Therefore part of our meetings will be devoted to presentation sociological theories and also empirical works, concerned with the general topic of the seminar. We plan to discussed the problems in sociology as following: nation/nationalism, stereotypes and stereotyping, civil society, connections of ideas of political philosophy (such as liberalism, conservatism and so on) with the civil rights, and also the democracy defining and understanding, and problems, concerned with it. We would like to concern with the classic democracy theories, like Alexis de Tocqueville works (“Democracy in America”) and Schumpeter conception of procedural democracy. We want a glans on the liberal, conservative and socialist-communist way of thinking, and also to understand fascism, nationalism and differences between authoritarian and totalitarian order. I suppose the problems of theory of social change will be add to it, especially the processes of change in XX and XXI age, It will be proper base to analyze and understand the gender issues and changing views on the non-heteronormative persons and also the problems of actual populism. It is important in our time because we can observed new form of populism in Europe and in USA: national populism. In such cases, as actual governments in Hungary, Poland and also in USA during the presidency of Donald Trump there are visible the ways the democracy is ruined and changing into new, non-democratic system. These threats should be analyzed.

Part of seminar will be devoted to the technical problems how to prepare MA thesis. It means we would like to present different ways how to collect empirical data needed to preparing the thesis, or how to use properly theoretical literature. We assume the MA thesis should meet the rules of scientific work. May be, it will be possible to invade some prominent or interesting scientists to our seminar.
