Short description:	The seminar will be based on a joint reading of the book ‘The Scapegoat’ by René Girard and ‘Thinking Biblically: Exegetical and Hermeneutical Studies’ by André LaCocque and Paul Ricoeur and then reconstruction of the author's views, with particular emphasis on epistemological means and strategies used to describe religious experience.
Full description:	The "Scapegoat" (together with "Violence and the Sacred") by René Girard is a breakthrough work in the history of religious philosophy that inspires and paves new ways for thinking that seek inspiration in religion. LaCocque / Ricoeur's work is a late work, an outstanding example of the 20th-century tradition of hermeneutic philosophy dealing with selected Bible themes It is interesting that both Girard and LaCocque / Ricoeur share the philosophical belief that by using rational means, through a specific rigor of the logical structure, we are able to derive more from the analysis of religious phenomena and without losing anything from their scope. During the classes, we will follow step by step the arguments of Girard and later LaCocque and Ricoeur and discuss the solutions they propose. We will pay special attention to innovative epistemological ideas that allow the authors to organize the structured argument onto elements derived from the most difficult parts of the Holy Bible. Classes will complement students' knowledge of important works in the field of religion philosophy and can be a good starting point for further independent study of the views of religious philosophers. The seminar is intended for students interested in the problems of philosophy of religion and epistemology. The classes are a continuation of the Epistemology of religious experience classes from the academic year 2019/2020.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:	(in Polish) Warunkiem zaliczenia seminarium jest aktywny udział w zajęciach (40%) oraz przygotowanie co najmniej jednego protokołu z zajęć z własnym komentarzem albo przygotowanie i przeprowadzenie referatu w ramach seminarium, albo praca pisemna na zatwierdzony przez prowadzącego temat związany z seminarium (60%).
