Short description:	The course is aimed at presenting main concepts, approaches and development of Western aesthetics. The content will be presented in chronological order from ancient Greece to Postmodernism. The issues discussed during the exercises for the faculty and the conditions of completing the exercises are placed on the subpages of the training groups.
Full description:	The course is aimed at presenting main concepts, approaches and development of Western aesthetics. The content will be presented in chronological order from ancient Greece to Postmodernism. The focus will be put on the origins of the ideas that are particularly important for the European cultural tradition as well as for contemporary aesthetics. The list of the authors discussed during the course includes: Plato, Aristotle, St. Augustine, L.B. Alberti, D. Hume, A. Baumgarten, I. Kant, G.W.F. Hegel, F. Nietzsche, M. Merleau-Ponty, R. Ingarden, M. Heidegger, U. Eco, W. Welsch, H. Schmitz

Learning outcomes:	Acquired knowledge: - knowledge of research methods and argumentative strategies used in the philosophical disciplines discussed during the course - knowledge of the basic philosophical Polish terminology typical of the philosophical approaches and concepts discussed during the course Acquired skills: - ability to interpret philosophical texts, comment on them and confront different theses - ability to offer a simple philosophical argumentation and to identify logical relations between the theses Acquired social skills: - identifying one’s knowledge and skills - identifying lacunae in one’s knowledge and skills and searching for possibilities to eliminate them
