Course comprises basic problems, terms, theories and methods of cultural anthropology. The topics are: culture and nature opposition; social and kinship systems; psychological anthropology; language and relativism and universalism of language (and culture); supernatural powers, worldview, myth and rituals; time and space of life; contemporary anthropology and anthropology in everyday life. |

Course comprises basic problems, terms, theories and methods of cultural anthropology. The topics are: culture and nature opposition; social and kinship systems; psychological anthropology; language and relativism and universalism of language (and culture); supernatural powers, worldview, myth and rituals; time and space of life; contemporary anthropology and anthropology in everyday life. 1. Basic definitions and terminology, field of interests and research. 2. The beginning of anthropology – the word of ours and strangers. 3. Evolution discovered. 4. From evolutionism to functionalism – new theories. 5. Functionalism and structuralism as a view inside culture. 6. Bronisław Malinowski and his functional revolution in anthropology. 7. Culture and nature. 8. Culture and society. 9. Culture, individuals and society. 10. Word of supernatural powers. 11. Language and culture – language of culture. 12. Marxism culture theory. 13. Structuralism and post-structuralism. 14. Modern and post-modern theories of culture. 15. Constructionism in culture – mass and popular culture, local and global world. |
