  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The lecture will present a general panorama of the literatures of Sub-Saharan Africa, both written and oral. The main theme of the lecture will be literature created by Africans in European languages - English, French and Portuguese. However, also selected issues of the history of literatures in indigenous languages will be mentioned, especially in relation to the languages taught at the Department Of African Languages Cultures i. e. Swahili, Hausa and Amharic.

has rudimentary knowledge of translation rules from a chosen African language into Polish

knows and understands basic analysis and interpretation methods of various products of culture characteristic of chosen theories and schools of research within the scope of cultural and literary studies, linguistics, philosophy and religion studies and history

knows and understands basic analysis and interpretation methods of various products of culture characteristic of local traditions in chosen regions in the Orient or Africa

SKILLS

can indicate sources of cultural differences between the countries of the Orient or Africa

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

The students are required to read three pieces of literature selected in communication with the teacher. The oral exam is based on the student's presentation of the assigned reading (50%) and the knowledge of the issues covered by the lecture.
