  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;

  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;

Short description:

The course focuses on improving the Amharic language skills at the intermediate level (B1) with particular attention given to cultural context.

Full description:

The course focuses on improving the Amharic language skills at the intermediate level (B1). Various forms of classes are aimed at acquiring vocabulary and idiomatic expressions as well as getting new knowledge of the language, culture and history. Students make the contextual analysis of vocabulary, searching for its cultural content.

Learning outcomes:

Knowledge:

- has extensive knowledge of the Amharic language

- is aware of the complex nature of Amharic language, its place and significance in the cultural and historical context of Ethiopia

- knows the meaning of the basic notions relevant for the Ethiopian culture

- has rudimentary knowledge of translation rules from Amharic into Polish

Skills:

- has a good command of Amharic at the intermediate level (B1)

- can interpret the basic notions of the Ethiopian culture through the analysis of language

- has a skill at formulating own opinions and conclusionsi n Amharic both in writing and in speech

- can use electronic and internet tools both in Polish and in Amharic.

Social competences:

- understands the need to learn foreign languages all one’s life

- can cooperate and work in a group as well as forge relationships and build social relations

- can establish relations and cooperate with Ethiopian people

- recognizes the need of dialogue between cultures

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

attendance control (a student can be absent max. twice during the semester; in the case of absence due to illness, the medical certificate excusing this absence should be submitted within seven work days of the last day of the leave specified in the certificate)
