The classes constitute the last year of a three-year course of Modern Standard Arabic. |
Full description: |
The course aims to develop the productive and receptive skills in Modern Standard Arabic, particularly the knowledge of tenses and conditional sentences, compound sentences, phraseological expressions and advanced vocabulary, as well as typical figures of speech. Examples of contemporary Arabic media and literature are used as an illustration for grammar and lexical issues. The skills developed during the course will enable students to communicate in Arabic when travelling throughout the Arab World as well as in their professional career. |

Learning outcomes: |
Knowledge - a student knows and understands: the place and importance of Oriental studies in the humanities and their specificity in relation to the subject and methodology K_W01 has extensive knowledge of the Arabic language (its/their structure, history, script) K_W12 is aware of the complex nature of Arabic, its place and significance in the cultural and historical context of Arab countries K_W13 is aware of the linguistic variety and its influence on the cultural and political situation of the world K_W14 has rudimentary knowledge of translation rules from Arabic into Polish K_W15 Skills - a student: has a good command of Arabic at the B2 level K_U12 can analyze and interpret source texts in Arabic K_U13 can translate literary texts and writings from Arabic into Polish K_U14 interpret key terms from a culture of Arab countries through linguistic/philological analysis K_U15 can fluently use the Arabic script and the necessary tools to learn and analyze it K_U16 (traditional and electronic dictionaries, lexicons, linguistic corpora, data bases, etc.) properly function in the linguistic and cultural environment of Arab countries K_U17 has a skill in presenting detailed aspects within the scope of cultural issues of Arab countries in Polish and in Arabic taking into consideration the intellectual tradition of Arab countries K_U21 has a skill at formulating own opinions and conclusions in writing and in speech both in Polish and Arabic K_U22 can use electronic and internet tools both in Polish and Arabic K_U24 Social competences - a student: understands the need to learn all one’s life K_K01 cooperate and work in a group as well as forge relationships and build social relations K_K02 can establish relations and cooperate with representatives of other cultures K_K03 can make others aware of the cultural distinctness and its religious, philosophical, traditional and historical roots and its significance for understanding modern world K_K05 sees the need of dialogue between cultures K_K06 is aware of significance the culture of Arab countries have for the culture of the world K_K07 acts in aid of sharing and promoting cultural and linguistic heritage of Arab countries K_K08 |
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
Continuous assessment, written tests, final written exam, final oral exam. Attendance control; in the case of absence due to illness, the medical certificate excusing this absence should be submitted within seven work days of the last day of the leave specified in the certificate. The total number of excused and unexcused absences that entitles the student to take an exam is 30%. |
