Short description: |
The course aims at familiarizing students with the dialectal and variant diversity of Arabic language with the emphasis on its exemplification in the form of cultural products (literature, newspapers; film; radio and television broadcasts; commercials; novels; songs; computer games; comics) taking into account both theoretical and practical perspectives. |

Students will be provided with basic information on the characteristics of the most important groups of Arabic dialects, they will become familiar with the basic vocabulary and syntactic constructions and texts of culture (written, audiovisual, audio and virtual). An important element of the program will be meetings with native speakers of particular dialects. |

Learning outcomes: |
Knowledge - a student: has extensive knowledge of the Arabic language (its/their structure, history, script) K_W12 is aware of the complex nature of Arabic, its place and significance in the cultural and historical context of Arab countries K_W13 is aware of the linguistic variety and its influence on the cultural and political situation of the world K_W14 has rudimentary knowledge of translation rules from Arabic into Polish K_W15 Skills - a student: read, analyse and interpret literary texts and other works of culture (film, press, social writing) and appropriately place them in their cultural context K_U06 can use the knowledge of socio-cultural issues of Arab countries in typical professional situations K_K09 has a good command of Arabic at the B2 level K_U12 can analyse and interpret source texts in Arabic K_U13 can translate literary texts and writings from Arabic into Polish K_U14 interpret key terms from a culture of Arab countries through linguistic/philological analysis K_U15 can fluently use the Arabic script and the necessary tools to learn and analyse it K_U16 (traditional and electronic dictionaries, lexicons, linguistic corpora, data bases, etc.) properly function in the linguistic and cultural environment of Arab countries K_U17 Social competences - a student: understands the need to learn all one’s life K_K01 cooperate and work in a group as well as forge relationships and build social relations K_K02 can establish relations and cooperate with representatives of other cultures K_K03 |

Continuous assessment, presentations Attendance control - a student can be absent max. two times during the semester; in the case of absence due to illness, the medical certificate excusing this absence should be submitted within seven work days of the last day of the leave specified in the certificate. tests, final oral assessment |
