  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The aim of the course is to prepare for the work of a conference translator and a sworn translator.

Full description:

The aim of the course is to prepare for the work of a conference translator and a sworn translator. The students translate various kinds of texts, including office and court documents, contracts and treatise. The cultural context and transcription are also studied.

Knowledge - a student:

has extended knowledge of particular problems pertaining to the culture of Arab countries (within the scope of culture and literature or language and religion or history and socio-political issues) K_W03

has extended and deepened knowledge of Arabic K_W04

has genuine knowledge of rules of communication, writing and reading in Arabic K_W09

has wide and profound knowledge of the structures and social relations as well as socio-cultural behaviour in Arab countries, which enables professional verbal communication in social and intercultural contexts K_W10

knows and understands the rules of copyright and intellectual property management K_W11

Skills - a student:

can use the terminology from the domain of religion of Arab countries to analyze and interpret religious phenomena, ethical motives and social behavior, as well as cultural differences K_U06

can analyze relationship between the development of philosophical and religious ideas in Arab countries as well as social, cultural and economic processes K_U07

can read, analyze and interpret advanced literary texts and other works of culture (film, press, social writing) of Arab countries and appropriately place them in their cultural context K_U08

can compare and thoroughly analyze interrelations between selected literary texts and other works of culture (film, press, social writing) of Arab countries, and the issues of tradition and modernity K_U09

can carry out a critical analysis and interpretation of different products of culture of Arab countries appropriate to a selected tradition, theory and research schools within the scope of studies on literature, language, culture and religion employing unique attitude of Oriental studies K_U10

can select and translate into Polish most valuable literary works/writings of Arab countries K_U13

can behave in an adequate way, react verbally and mediate in communication in a selected socio-cultural context of Arab countries K_U16

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

continuous assessment (the current preparation for classes and activities),

written and oral tests

Attendance control - a student can be absent max. three times during the semester; in the case of absence due to illness, the medical certificate excusing this absence should be submitted within seven work days of the last day of the leave specified in the certificate.
