ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 2.50 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Prerequisites (description):

Completion of the first year of three-year Japanese undergraduate studies.

The student should master the Japanese language to the extent required to complete the first year of first-cycle studies.

Short description:

Continues to learn standard Japanese. Practicing the practical application of grammar rules learned during the lecture on the descriptive grammar of the contemporary Japanese language. Practicing reading comprehension, listening, and speaking. Presentation of situations in which specific expressions are used, learning new words and constructions. The emphasis is on developing language comprehension and processing skills.

Full description:

Continuation of the standard Japanese language in the 2nd year of Japanese studies. Practicing the practical application of grammar rules learned during the lecture on the descriptive grammar of the contemporary Japanese language. Practicing reading comprehension, listening, and speaking. Presentation of situations in which specific expressions are used, learning new words and constructions. The emphasis is on developing language comprehension and processing skills.

The item is divided into three segments:

I. Classes including, among others Practicing the construction of complex sentences, explaining how to use idiomatic expressions (mainly related to body parts), onomatopoeia and mimetic expressions, expressions denoting choice, adverbial expressions, and others.

II. Conversations based on film materials, including Japanese TV series. The following forms of work in the classes are planned:

- exercises improving listening comprehension, with elements of audiovisual translation (summarizing episodes, characterization of characters, translation of individual statements; using the visual character of the video to understand the context of the statement),

- discussion on topics from everyday life and current issues

Knowledge:

- has a basic knowledge of the Japanese language (its structure, grammar, history, writing) [K_W12]

- is aware of the complex nature of the Japanese language, its place and meaning in the context of the culture and history of Japan [K_W13]

- is aware of linguistic diversity and its impact on the cultural and political situation of the world [K_W14]

- has a basic knowledge of the rules of translating from Japanese into Polish [K_W15]

Skills:

- can read, analyze and interpret literary texts and/or other works of cultural creativity in Japan (film, press, literature on

social character) correctly placing them in the cultural context [K_U06]

- can apply knowledge of socio-cultural issues in typical professional situations [K_U09]

- has a good command of Japanese at the B1 level [K_U12]

- can analyze and interpret Japanese source texts [K_U13]

- can translate literary texts/writings from Japanese into Polish [K_U14]

- can interpret the key concepts of Japanese culture through linguistic/philological analysis [K_U15]

- can use the Japanese writing system and the tools for learning and analyzing it (traditional and electronic dictionaries, lexicons, language corpora, databases, etc.) [K_U16]

- can function properly in the linguistic and cultural environment of Japan [K_U17]

- has the ability to present detailed issues in the field of Japanese cultural issues in Polish or a foreign language, taking into account the intellectual tradition of Japan [K_U21]

- has the ability to formulate, in speech and writing, own opinions and conclusions in Polish and Japanese at the B1 level [K_U22]

- can use electronic and internet tools in Polish and Japanese [K_U24]

Competences:

- understands the need for lifelong learning [K_K01]

- can cooperate and work in a group as well as establish contacts and build social relations [K_K02]

- can establish contacts and cooperate with representatives of different cultures [K_K03]

- is aware of the cultural difference and its religious, philosophical, moral, and historical sources and its importance for

understanding the modern world [K_K05]

- sees the need for intercultural dialogue [K_K06]

- is aware of the importance of Japanese culture in world culture [K_K07]

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

- class participation

- continuous assessment (ongoing preparation for classes and activity)

- possible written self-tests during the semester

- final test/exam in oral or written form

- possible pre-session assesment
