To acquire the ability to use sinological knowledge to analyze cultural and especially literary phenomena characteristic of both contemporary and ancient China. Part of the classes is devoted to theoretical issues and the broader context of a given era, analyzed phenomenon, process, text. Fall semster search for the data, especially Chinese historical texts written in classical Chinese, lay out a plan and a detailed outline to display related items of the thesis, Summer semester present their research, step by step, the arguments, and finally the sections of the M.A. thesis. has organized general knowledge (including terminology, theory and methodology) in the scope of cultural studies has basic knowledge in the range of theory of humanities (literary studies or linguistics or history) necessary to understand chosen cultural aspects has detailed and organized knowledge of literature and writings of China and Taiwan ; can name and characterize most important phenomena/trends/literary texts/writings of China and Taiwan has detailed and organized knowledge of socio-cultural issues in China and Taiwan within the scope of natural environment and ethnic, demographic and political situation demonstrates basic grasp of contemporary cultural life of China and Taiwan knows and understands basic analysis and interpretation methods of various products of culture characteristic of chosen theories and schools of research within the scope of cultural and literary studies, linguistics, philosophy and religion studies and history search for, analyze, evaluate and use information from different sources indicate sources of cultural differences of Oriental and African countries read, analyze and interpret literary texts and other works of culture in China and Taiwan (film, press, social writing) and appropriately place them in their cultural context knows and understands basic analysis and interpretation methods of various products of culture characteristic of local traditions in China can compare and perceive interrelations between chosen literary texts and other works of culture of China s (film, press, social writing) and the issues within the scope of tradition and modern times analyze and interpret source texts in Chinese has the necessary skills to prepare seminar papers: can select and find sources and analyses in Chinese choose and formulate a subject of a MA thesis, select and find sources in Chinese, make references to basic theoretical approaches make others aware of the cultural distinctness and its religious, philosophical, traditional and historical roots and its significance for understanding modern world perceives the positive socio-cultural values of China , Taiwan, Hongkong and possibility to use them in own personal development |
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
Attendance and the thesis are essential. Written assignment in a form of a thesis should be completed by the end of summer term of the fifth year (complete draft of paper much earlier). It should provide the research result and expose all the process of obtaining data, theory, the sources and the analysis according to the criteria of the Master Thesis. In the course of preparing the thesis the presentation of the topic should draw the attention of others and prove the topic understandable and interesting. Finally the thesis is to be presented at the Master’s Degree Examination as a essential part of it. |
