  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;

Completion of the first year of a bachelor's degree in Oriental Studies: culture of the Ancient East. Knowledge of the grammar of the Akkadian language and Neo-Assyrian cuneiform script.

Classes to deepen knowledge of Akkadian language and cuneiform script.

Full description:

Reading, analysis and translation of selected Akkadian texts. Discussing linguistic and cultural issues related to the reading. Working together to prepare a full translation into Polish of a selected source text with a brief historical and philological commentary in the form of an article, which will be submitted for publication with one of the Polish scoring journals.

Skills:

- can read, analyze and interpret literary texts and other cultural creations of the Ancient East correctly placing them in a cultural context; - K_U06

- compare and perceive relationships between selected literary texts and other works of cultural creativity of the Ancient East; - K_U07

- demonstrate knowledge of Akkadian and other languages of the Ancient East; - K_U12

- analyze and interpret source texts in Akkadian; - K_U13

- translate literary texts/writings from Akkadian into Polish; - K_U14

- interpret key concepts of Ancient Eastern culture through linguistic/philological analysis; - K_U15

- be proficient in the use of the Akkadian language writing system and tools for its study and analysis (traditional and electronic dictionaries, lexicons, language corpora, databases, etc.); - K_U16

- is ready to raise awareness of the importance of the culture of the Ancient East in world culture; - K_K07
