  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

Seminar on African languages and cultures dedicated to all students of the Department of African Languages and Cultures. The seminar aims at bringing together students of different backgrounds and origins, at different levels of their studies, creating an interdisciplinary meeting space for a wide range of perspectives and projects engaging with African languages and cultures. At the seminar presentations will be also given by guest lecturers. The seminar takes place once a month.

Seminar on African languages and cultures dedicated to all students of the Department of African Languages and Cultures. The seminar aims at bringing together students of different backgrounds and origins, at different levels of their studies, creating an interdisciplinary meeting space for a wide range of perspectives and projects engaging with African languages and cultures.

It will offer a ground for discussion on topics interesting to participants. At the seminar the students will present their research interests with the aim of exchanging knowledge, thoughts and experiences within various aspects of African studies. At the seminar presentations will be also given by guest lecturers.

Seminar is open for students in all fields of African studies. During the course students will deepen their knowledge, broaden their skills and competences necessary to conduct scientific research.

Knowledge

- has detailed and organized knowledge on a choice of topics and regions of Africa, presented within the offered choice

- knows the main research directions and achievements of contemporary African studies

- has detailed knowledge necessary to explain specialized research problems in the field of their research interests

- can name and characterize selected basic cultural phenomena of a selected region of Africa

Abilities

- can use theoretical knowledge to formulate hypotheses, describe and solve a research problem in accordance with the chosen methodology of scientific research

- is able to indicate sources of cultural differences of African countries within a choice of examples

- use the basic terminology from the chosen domain of interests

- knows how to plan, organize and conduct research in the selected field

Social competences:

- understands the special social role of science and the need to disseminate scientific achievements

- understands the need to learn all one’s life

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Evaluation based on the activity and presentation given at the seminar

Credit with a grade. 100% of presence, activity in discussions and presentation.
