Prerequisites (description): | This is a course for students who are writing BA, MA, or PhD theses. Students who have successfully completed Sztuka Pracy Naukowej will also be admitted. Students must be able to speak and write serviceable English prose before enrolling. |
Short description: |
The course prepares students for international academic publication through practical exercises analyzing the argumentative and narrative structures of academic texts, their substantive revision, and their copyediting for English style. |
Full description: |
All stages of writing will be analyzed: from initial conception, choice of topic, formulation of a main claim, outlining the narrative and argument, drafting, and revising, revising, revising. Classes will be conducted as intensive workshops with students providing collegial feedback and editing each other’s work. Students will learn to write abstracts and to draft term papers. Instruction and writing will be in English. |

Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
During the course students will receive formative assessments of their work: constructive criticism and suggestions for improvement from the instructor. The final grade will be based on a combination of class participation (especially peer feedback), the quality of each student’s written work, and an exit interview. Written papers and an oral exit interview with the instructor |
