Presentation of rules of judicial and police cooperation as indispensable element of economic and political integration of the EU |

Police and judicial cooperation is an important element of the single market and plays an important role in protecting this market from unfavourable external phenomena, especially by combating crime. During the course we will discuss the following subjects: the Council of Europe regulations relevant to EU law; the regulations of the Schengen Convention, the regulations of the Treaty of Lisbon (institutional solutions); cooperation in criminal matters, especially the European Arrest Warrant; cooperation in civil law, including mutual recognition of judicial decisions; the common visa, migration and asylum policy. Students workload: lecture - 15 hrs preparation to the classes (including oral exam) - 45 hrs total - 60 h |

Learning outcomes: |
After completing the course the students will: Knowledge: – know what police and judicial cooperation is, – why it is important for the EU single market, – know the threats originating outside the EU (crime), – know selected regulations of the Council of Europe, – know the ties between EU law and Council of Europe law, – know the Schengen Convention, – know EU law in the field of police and judicial cooperation, – know selected aspects of cooperation in criminal matters, especially the European Arrest Warrant, – know the nature of cooperation in civil law, including mutual recognition of judicial decisions, – know the principles of the common visa, migration and asylum policy of the EU, Skills: – have the ability to interpret selected EU legislation, – have the ability to forecast the development of police and judicial cooperation, – know the principles of the common visa, migration and asylum policy of the EU, Social competences: – understand to keep updating legal knowledge, – understand the importance of legal rules. |
