ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 3.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Prerequisites (description):

The course introduces into basic elements of Polish civil law. It serves as starting point and prepares students for following legal courses. It provides them with a general knowledge of basic legal concepts of private law in Poland.

Short description:

Lectures aim to cover wide range of issues and institution of Polish civil law and conflict of laws. Special attention is paid to issues dealt with during lectures on Community law and European Substantive Law in particular.

Full description:

The lecture focused on discussing the basic institutions of Polish civil law: the law of property, liability, torts, unjust enrichment, company law, intellectual property rights, unfair competition.

Learning outcomes:

After completion of the learning process, the student:

understands the differences between private and public law and is able to explain consequences of this division

understands and uses the basic terminology of private law

understands the importance of private law for European Studies.

critically analyzes the functioning of the rules in practice of law and assess the impact of the application thereof

recognizes the fundamental provisions of Polish and European private law

understands the methods adopted by the European Union in the field of the codification of international private law

Students gain basic knowledge in the field of private law, which will allow for further understanding of the following law courses.

Assessment is based on the test covering the above issues.
