Short description:

The aim of the seminar is to prepare the Bachelor thesis on the role and development prospects of the Visegrad Group in the European Union.

Full description:

The subject of the seminar deals with the role and development prospects of the Visegrad Group (V4) in the European Union. A problematic and comparative approach is promoted. Papers should address issues that are important from a political, economic and social point of view. The first semester will be devoted to the preparation of assumptions and methodology of work. Conversely, in the second semester students will work individually and in groups under the promoter supervision. Bachelor thesis may include the following topics:

1. Genesis, aims and forms of V4 cooperation

2. Stages of development and effectiveness of activities

3. Reasons of the political revival of the Visegrad Group

4. Role and functions of foreign investments in V4 countries

5. Relations of V4 countries with Germany

6. Relations of V4 countries with Russia

7. The political potential of the Visegrad Group in the EU

8. The economic potential of the Visegrad Group in the EU

9. The comparison of V4 and Nordic countries

10. The comparison of V4 and Benelux

11. The comparison of V4 and Southern European countries

12. Reactions of the Visegrad countries to the Eurozone crisis

13. Similarities and political and system differences in V4 countries

14. The attitude of V4 to Brexit

15. The mental map of V4 societies

16. Relations between V4 countries and EU institutions

Learning outcomes:

The result of the seminar will be a Bchelor thesis. Student should master the ability to use literature and develop and present his achievements.

Upon the completion of the course the student:

KNOWLEDGE

1. Presents structured knowledge covering terminology and methodology in the fields of political science, sociology and economics in relation to the thesis topic.

2. It differentiates the methods of analysis, interpretation, evaluation and presentation of selected issues in the area of their own research.

3. Know the basic principles of copyright law relating to bachelor thesis.

SKILLS

4. Can plan stages of research work.

5. Is able to search, select, analyse, evaluate and integrate data from various sources.

6. Has ability to prepare written statements and opinions.

7. Combines factual arguments with the formulation of his own views and positions of other authors as well as creates synthetic summaries.

SOCIA COMPETENCE

8. Collaborates with the promoter, conduct dialogue and accept constructive criticism.

9. Publicly presents his position, defends, explains and interprets theses.

10. Identifies and solves the dilemmas related to the thesis being prepared.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Semester I:

1. Attendance at classes

2. Definition of the topic and work plan, together with the division into chapters

3. Collecting the appropriate bibliography (including in foreign languages), and constructing the adequate bibliography

4. Formulation of the theses of written work

5. Critical analysis of the material

6. Improving language skills, developing editorial and editorial skills

Semester II:

1. Presentations of the chapters of the thesis and regular consultation of the contents at subsequent meetings

2. The promoter evaluates: systematic work, clarity of plan and narration, language and style, methodological correctness, the author's character of the written work, diligence of editing

3. Student should submit written work accepted
