Short description:

Descriptive grammar of Modern Greek is a course aiming to present grammar issues of contemporary Modern Greek (kini neoelliniki) equivalent to grammar knowledge at the language skill level of at least A2.

Full description:

Presenting the basic notions, categories and phenomena of Modern Greek grammar and syntax. The course aims to expand and provide a theoretical background for the practical language learning course.

- Phonetics of Modern Greek: letters, sounds, accent, phonetic processes, intonation

- Parts of speech: nouns and articles (using articles, gender, number, cases, basic masculine, feminine and neuter declensions, common and proper nouns)

- Parts of speech: adjectives (basic types and declension, comparison)

- Parts of speech: pronouns (personal, possessive, interrogative, indefinite, demonstrative)

- Parts of speech: numbers (cardinal and ordinal)

- Parts of speech: verbs (voices, moods, types of verbs, basic conjugations, basic tenses, participles)

- Parts of speech: invariable parts of speech (adverbs, prepositions, particles, conjunctions, interjections)

- Basic elements of syntax: construction of a simple and compound sentence, using moods and voices, government of verbs, using noun cases

Ponieważ w zajęciach uczestniczą studenci I roku, niemożliwe jest korzystanie z literatury dostępnej wyłącznie w języku nowogreckim.

- the knowledge necessary to write and speak contemporary Modern Greek at the B1 level;

- identifying grammatical forms of all the parts of speech at a basic level (or using a dictionary to find a word – the basic word form for uncomplicated grammatical forms);

- identifying the basic kinds of syntactic phenomena and their functions.

Skills:

Being able to use knowledge in practice:

- applying the basic rules of spelling and pronunciation (orthography, accents, intonation);

- building correct grammatical forms for all the parts of speech at a basic level;

- building correct simple and compound sentences at a basic level (including applying the rules of verb rection, noun cases);

- identifying the sequence of tenses and the main function of the aspect of a verb.

Social competences:

- respect for correct language;

- being aware of correct usage of Modern Greek grammar in communication.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

The effects of participating in classes and the grade from the test at the end of the summer semester.
