Upon completion a student can understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialization; s/he can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party; s/he can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options. |
Learning outcomes: |
Active participation in lectures and seminars lessons conducted in Italian: Listening - the student is able to globally understand a lecture and elicit detailed information from the text; - the student is able to analyze and synthesize an academic discourse. Reading - the student is able to determine the type of the written text; - distinguish presented facts from the author's opinion and refer to the text critically; - can find detailed information in the text; - broadens the knowledge of semantic fields, as well as grammatical structures that characterize the formal register; - is able to analyze and interpret graphical charts. Speaking - the student is able to summarize orally information contained in spoken and written texts and paraphrase it; - uses a style appropriate to the conventions of academic speaking; - can formulate his own opinion and make own arguments. Interaction - the student is able to actively participate in an academic debate presenting and justifying his point of view ; - can ask questions and express an opposite opinion referring to the arguments of the other discussion participants Writing - the student is able to edit a letter based on the stylistic conventions characteristic of the academic language, using appropriate semantic fields and grammatical structures; - can write an article, abstract, report, and conduct formal correspondence. |
