  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;

  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;

Short description:

Course's aim is to familiarize the students with the concept of plurilingual and intercultural education, also with documents related to these concepts. During this course, students will discuss about languages and cultures in Europe and other parts of the world. The course enhances development of already possessed plurilingual and pluricultural competences, helps to sensitize the students in the context of cultural and linguistic diversity and leads to acceptance of it. While studying materials that develop intercultural and plurilingual competence among pupils, future teachers acquire skills that may help them in organizing foreign language classes. Students will attain knowledge and skills connected with project-based learning by creating their own projects that will also be presented in front of the whole group.

Knowledge: the student knows and understands

S_W01 to an in-depth degree chosen facts, theories, institutions, processes and phenomena related to linguistic and cultural diversity and the language policy of the European Union, which have practical application in teaching foreign languages in kindergartens and at the first and second educational stages

S_W02 essential terminology from the field of plurilingual and pluricultural education

S_W03 the methods, norms, procedures and standards of practice in educational institutions which promote plurilingual and pluricultural education

S_W05 the social structures and institutions in society and their relationships to one another with a particular emphasis on the countries connected with the languages taught

S_W16 to a significant extent the process of interpersonal communication and social patterns in Polish

Skills: the student is able to

S_U01 search, analyse, evaluate, select and use information, using a variety of sources and methods in Polish and English and, optionally, in French or German

S_U15 speak and write in a precise and coherent way in Polish on topics related to plurilingual and pluricultural education, applying different theoretical approaches and using findings from disciplines related to the pluralistic approaches to language teaching and learning

S_U20 work in a team, performing various roles, is able to accept and assign tasks, possesses the elementary organisational skills necessary for achieving aims connected with designing and implementing professional educational activities

Social competences: the student is prepared to

S_K01 pursue lifelong learning and develop their own plurilingual competence as well as that of their learners

S_K05 interact and work in a group, performing various roles

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

The basis of getting a positive mark is:

- attendance during classes,

- preparation for the classes: information from the bibliography has to be ingested (booklets, brochures, articles and websites), giving presentations, records and materials from the classes ,

- activity during classes (participation in discussion)

- preparing presentations related to the subject matter,

- creating and presenting the final project

Assessment criteria

Tasks that will be assessed:

- preparation for the classes, activity during classes, records from the course – 40% of the final grade;

- midterm presentations and on-going controls – 60% of the final mark;

Assessment criteria related to the Educational Project:

- compatibility with the instructions;

- cultural perspective of the project and its accuracy;

- structure of the paper (logic, style, clarity, bibliography)

- individual opinion of every group member about the project and preparation process;

- the way of presenting the final effects.

The basis of getting a positive mark is:

- activity during classes (participation in discussion)

Assessment criteria

Student's input:

- 15 hours of participation in the course

- 10 hours of individual preparation (essential to acquire expected results of learning throughout the course;

Given 1,5 ECTS points consist of:

- contact hours, active participation and attendance during classes = 1,0 ECTS points;

- preparation of the obligatory presentations and the final project = 0,5 ECTS point

Short description:

The classes are aimed at familiarizing students with the concept of multilingual and multicultural education, with basic documents related to this topic, and providing them with basic knowledge about linguistic diversity in the world, especially in Poland and other European countries. Students will learn about the functioning of the educational and language policy of the European Union and the Council of Europe and other organizations (UN, ECML), obtain the most important information about institutions promoting education for linguistic and cultural diversity and learn about the educational offer of the most important European educational programs.

The main goal of the classes is to develop mediation competence, both cultural and linguistic. The classes offer tools to develop it. they open us up to the cultural and linguistic diversity around us and, consequently, promote understanding of the positive aspects related to the diversity of societies, their representatives and the languages they speak.
