  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) teaching method. In this course, students will learn the basic features of the CLIL method and the rationale for using this approach, especially in teaching Civics. During the course, students will learn about the practical aspects of teaching using the CLIL method. They will plan and conduct demonstrations and presentations of classes using the CLIL method, entire lessons and larger units. They will also create CLIL materials for students.

THEMATIC SCOPE:

• familiarizing participants with the basics of the CLIL method

• presenting examples of CLIL models from other European countries

• familiarizing participants with teaching and learning opportunities focused on CLIL in the Polish education system (Civics – oriented)

• developing students' skills in planning and implementing units based on the CLIL method

• developing critical thinking skills of participants by guiding them in the selection and preparation of a CLIL-oriented curriculum and teaching materials

• making students aware of the importance of the CLIL integrated curriculum for the further development of students in CLIL subject education

• familiarizing participants with the competences to be acquired by the CLIL teacher

- Polish curriculum and teaching opportunities to use CLIL

- competencies of CLIL teachers

- planning, preparation and delivery of CLIL units

Learning outcomes:

The graduate knows and understands:

S_W03 the methods, norms, procedures and standards of good practice in educational institutions, related to teaching foreign languages.

The graduate is able to:

S_U05 observe and assess the suitability of a variety of methods, procedures and best practices, and select and apply the appropriate approach with the goal of accomplishing tasks and solving problems related to foreign language teaching;

S_U13 prepare written work in both Polish and a foreign language, relevant to the field of studies, on specific issues, using basic theoretical approaches and a variety of sources;

S_U13 acquire knowledge and develop their professional competences in teaching social studies using a variety of sources (in Polish and in English) and new technologies (ICT);

S_U19 using the basic organisational skills, plan and carry out tasks related to teaching foreign languages and, optionally, to the teaching of social studies;

S_U20 perform the various roles required for working as a team, is willing to accept and assign tasks, and possesses the elementary organisational skills necessary in designing and implementing professional educational activities.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

The course ends with a grade.

One of the prerequisites for obtaining the final grade is presence and active participation in classes.

One absence per semester is allowed.

The final grade is the combination of:

1. CLIL unit (portfolio task) + reflection on implementation

2. in-class tasks and tests

3. homework tasks done as part of asynchronous classes on Kampus platform

The grading scale:

90-100% → 5

85-89% → 4,5

75-84% → 4

70-74% → 3,5

60-69% → 3

59%-31% → 2

30%-0% → NK

A pass grade for the semester is 60% overall

The course covers 30 didactic hours per semester and is conducted in a blended mode:

- 14 hours: in-class meetings, the dates of which are indicated in the timetable for the winter semester 2023/24, available on the CKNJOiEE UW website;

- 16 hours: in an asynchronous mode, on Kampus platform.

Course materials provided by the teacher will be available on Kampus platform.

The attendance list is checked during the stationary meetings. Students' attendance is recorded on Kampus platform.

Each student may be absent once.
