Short description: |
A 180 hours English language course – 3 semesters with 60 hours each. Classes will be conducted in a blended mode: 30 contact hours in class and on the Zoom platform in each semester, along with 30 asynchronous hours on the Kampus UW platform, resulting in a total of 90 contact hours and 90 hours on the Kampus platform. |

After completing the B2-level course, the student is capable of understanding longer speeches, lectures, and even complex discussions. They can comprehend most news and TV programs related to current events. The student understands movies in their original version if the actors use standard literary language. They grasp news articles and reports on contemporary issues where authors present detailed opinions and arguments. The student is capable of understanding contemporary literary prose. They can communicate fluently and spontaneously, enabling normal communication with a native speaker. They can actively participate in discussions, explaining and supporting their views. The student can present a clear and detailed description on a wide range of topics related to their interests. They can express their opinion on a given topic, providing arguments for and against. Moreover, the student can write a clear, precise text on subjects related to their interests. They can compose a short essay or report, conveying information or presenting arguments for and against. They can write a letter, conveying the essence and importance of personal experiences and impressions. |

Learning outcomes: |
Upon completion of the course, the student will demonstrate the following skills, knowledge, and social competencies: Skills: • U01: Can search, analyze, evaluate, select, and use information from various sources and methods. • U10: Can communicate using various channels and communication techniques with specialists in the fields of study relevant to the chosen course. Knowledge: • W07: Knows and understands basic concepts and principles of copyright protection. • W15: Has elementary knowledge of interpersonal and social communication processes, their regularities, and disturbances. • W23: Has organized knowledge about ethical principles and norms. Social Competencies: • K01: Understands the need for lifelong learning. • K02: Can collaborate and work in a group, assuming various roles. |
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
Teaching and Assessment Methods: The course develops the four basic language skills: reading, listening, speaking, and writing. Emphasis is placed on activities preparing students for communication in situations related to their studies and future professional work. Practical methods include description, instruction, work with reading and listening texts, lexical and grammatical exercises, conversations, discussions, games, and role-playing scenes. Assessment Criteria: Assessment methods include oral responses (presentation, role-playing, participation in discussions), written expressions (letters, essays, summaries), and teaching tests (true/false, single and multiple-choice, gap-filling, providing appropriate phrases – language functions). The assessment of social competencies involves discussions with the lecturer and peers, observation by the lecturer, and self-assessment. Grading Scale: • 0% - 29%: Not classified (NK) • 30% - 59%: 2.0: Unsatisfactory • 60% - 70%: 3.0: Satisfactory • 71% - 76%: 3.5: Satisfactory plus • 77% - 86%: 4.0: Good • 87% - 92%: 4.5: Good plus • 93% - 98%: 5.0: Very good • 99% - 100%: 5.0: Excellent • Obtaining grades: 1. Attendance in classes (two absences allowed per semester). 2. Obtaining positive grades for oral responses, tests, and written expressions. The final grade is the average of grades obtained during the course. Each course instructor may additionally introduce a requirement for a comprehensive material test. |
