English teaching practice: developing teacher competences for secondary schools

The purpose of the teaching practice is to provide the student with knowledge and skills to practice teaching at the third stage of education. Practice is organized in those types of schools and institutions where the graduate obtains qualifications. Graduates through the the teaching practice are prepared both in the field of teaching the subject (conducting classes), as well as carrying out educational and supervising tasks. During the teaching practice, the student is provided with the following forms of activity: observing classes, assisting the teacher conducting the classes, self-conducting classes, planning and discussing classes conducted by himself and others (teachers, students).

The practice is conducted and settled according to the detailed regulations available on the e-learning Kampus .platform.

The main objectives of the teaching practice at the 3rd educational stage:

1. Getting to know the specifics of work and the scope of didactic duties,

educational and organizational English teacher

2. Acquiring the ability to observe and document the lesson, and

independent conducting English lessons.

3. Acquiring the ability to analyze the work of an English teacher and students during

discussing internships with the teacher-mentor and during didactic classes

present.

4. Acquiring the ability to analyze your own didactic and educational work and its

effects and students' own work.

5. Acquaintance with emotional and intellectual behavior and functioning

social children and youth.

6. Acquiring pedagogical diagnosis skills, planning didactic and educational work taking into account individual differences of students.

7. To make students - future English teachers - aware of problems

appearing in the education and upbringing of children and adolescents (biopsychic,

social, economic).

K_W12 the legal and financial aspect of teaching institutions, particularly those involved in foreign language teaching or teaching social studies, basic principles of creating and developing various forms of enterprise

K_W21 the core curriculum for teaching English and, optionally, French or German, or social studies at the third educational stage and language teaching requirements in higher education

K_U02 individually plan and implement, using also communication and information techniques, typical and innovative projects connected with teaching foreign languages in secondary schools, vocational schools, in adult and higher education and in other educational institutions involved in teaching foreign languages, optionally in teaching social studies at the third educational stage

K_U03 evaluate and conduct a critical analysis of the quality of foreign language teaching and, optionally, the quality of teaching social studies; diagnose the needs, abilities and potential of every learner, as well as design and implement individually tailored teaching and educational programs

K_U04 apply the assumptions and requirements of the core curriculum for teaching English and, optionally, French or German, or social studies at the third educational stage, and the requirements for language teaching in higher education

K_U06 apply, to the necessary extent, the law relating to educational institutions, involving the teaching of foreign languages

K_U07 assess the suitability of a variety of methods, procedures and best practices, and select and apply the appropriate approach with the goal of accomplishing tasks and solving problems related to foreign language teaching and/or teaching social studies

K_U08 use theories in psychology, pedagogy and education, and other related disciplines to critically analyse and interpret educational, social, care-giving and cultural issues, as well as understand the motives and patterns of human behaviour

K_U10 work with teenagers and adults from various cultural backgrounds and those with limited knowledge of the Polish language

K_U11 apply ethical standards in all of the activities undertaken, identify and analyse ethical dilemmas in the academic, educational, care-giving and therapeutic aspects of their profession

K_U14 plan a language teaching course and program suited to a full range of recipients in their social environment and various areas of economic, academic and social life

K_U28 animate the work of the learner and promote independence in knowledge acquisition, inspiring a positive approach to lifelong learning and responsibility in making educational and professional decisions

K_K06 interact and work in a group, performing various roles

K_K08 correctly identify and resolve dilemmas associated with the teaching profession

K_K10 undertake psychological, pedagogic and educational actions in school, out-of-school and academic settings; is confident of their meaning and appropriateness, is ready to face professional challenges

K_K13see the importance of behaving in a professional manner and reflect on the ethical issues raised in the teaching profession, as well as develop professionally and support the ethos of the teaching profession

Learning outcomes evaluated on the basis of the following components:

- mentor rating / opinion

- evaluation of the mentor based on the presented portfolio (lesson plans, lesson plans, reflections after classes)

- case reports

- teaching practice diary

- own tasks and exercises designed - lesson plans
