  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;

Short description:

Course aims:

to help students eliminate obtrusive traces of their L1;

to encourage students to consistently follow one model/standard of pronunciation (either British or American);

to improve students' intelligibility;

to help them achieve greater fluency in oral communication.

By the end of this pronunciation course, students should be able to:

improve their ability to produce English sounds;

use effectively English stress, rhythm and intonation patterns.

2. CONSONANTS

Fortis versus lenis

Consonant sequences

3. SES/GenAm realisational differences

5. CONNECTED SPEECH

Full and reduced forms of function words

Stylistic variations: assimilation, elision, linking

6. STRESS AND RHYTHM

7. INTONATION

The tone-unit: Nucleus, head, pre-head, and tail.

Functions of intonation: attitudinal, accentual, grammatical, and discoursal.

Po ukończeniu kursu studenci będą w stanie panować nad swoją wymową (stale świadomie oceniać ją i wprowadzać konieczną korektę); opanują podstawową wiedzę z zakresu fonetyki/fonologii języka angielskiego; sprawnie korzystać ze słownika wymowy oraz transkrypcji fonetycznej; wykorzystywać nabytą wiedzę i sprawność w nauczaniu języka angielskiego.
