Short description:

The aim of the teaching practice is to accumulate trainee's teaching and caretaking related experience. Prospective teachers confront and apply theoretical knowledge gained during didactics classes, especially during Young Learner Methodology lectures, in practical school environment.

1. Learning the specifics of a kindergarten and primary school teacher's job within the pedagogic and methodological scope, with particular interest paid to English language teaching.

2. Learning to plan, conduct and document English language classes.

3. Learning to analyse teachers' and learners' activity during student and tutor meetings, both in consultations with lecturers and in methodology classes.

4. Learning to analyse own didactic activity and its practical application, as well as analysis of students' work

Detailed aims

1. Getting acquainted with the specifics of a kindergarten and primary English language teacher's job within the scope of methodology and pedagogy of teaching a foreign language.

2. Learning to plan, conduct, document foreign language classes and prepare own teaching materials

3. Learning to analyse both the teacher's and the students' work during post-teaching practice evaluation by methodology trainers and trainees in methodology and didactics classes.

4. Learning to analyse student own abilities and skills in carrying out tasks leading to educating and upbringing learners and the effects of trainees' work on children's activity.

5. Learning about and studying child behaviour as well as emotional, intellectual and social functioning of children and teenagers.

6. Learning the principles of pedagogic diagnoses, planning of didactic and pedagogic work with special attention paid to students' individual differences.

7. Realizing problems emerging whilst educating and nursing children and youth within social, economic and biopsychic factors.

8. Finding out about primary school foreign language teacher's organizational, didactic and educational duties.

9. Observing and teaching English in kindergarten and primary school classes.

10. Analysing lexical, grammatical and phonetics classes based on modern foreign language teaching methodology in pre-primary, lower-primary and upper-primary classes.

11. Analysing teaching styles, motivation boosting systems while carrying out classes of English language teaching.

12. Planning sequences of English language classes in early language education, both lower and upper-primary.

13. The use and implementation of activating teaching methods.

14. The use of new technologies in foreign language classes.

Learning outcomes:

K_W09 (H1A_W04) knows basic theories related to education, learning, teaching. Understands various conditioning of these processes.

K_W13 (S1A_W09) possesses basic knowledge about the structure and functions of the educational system; its aims, legal foundations, organization and functioning of different educational, caretaking and nursing , therapeutic, cultural and aid organizations.

K_W14 (S1A_W04) possesses basic knowledge of educational, aid, cultural and nursing system members .

K_W20

(H1P_W02) possesses basic knowledge of foreign language teaching methodology, norms, procedures, good practice procedures taking place in foreign language training institutions.

K_U01 (S1A, U01, S1A_U08) can observe and interpret social phenomena; analyses their relation to various pedagogic activity.

K_U02 (S1A U02, S1A, U01, S1A, U06, H1A_U04) can use own basic theoretical knowledge in pedagogy and didactics and related disciplines to analyse and interpret educational, nursing, caretaking, cultural, and aid problems, as well as motivation and patterns of human behaviour.

K_U09 (S1A, U06, S1A_U07) can evaluate usefulness and application of typical methods, procedures and good practice activities to carry out tasks related to different areas of didactic, educational and nursing activity.

K_U11 (S1A_U06) can animate work to develop abilities and skills of the members of pedagogic processes and support their self-driven activity in pursuit of knowledge, as well as inspire them to act towards whole life learning.

K_U14 (S1A_U06) can analyse own activity and point out possible areas of improvement and future modification.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

The student is obliged to document the teaching practice. In order to get a credit the student shows the following: the teaching practice register “Dziennik praktyk” with a short description of the observed and taught classes within the 60-hour-teaching practice, a short opinion provided by the mentor teacher, providing mentor's assessment card as well as a portfolio of 5 lesson observation sheets, 5 student’s own lesson plans with own teaching materials and reflexive comments. Final grade is based on three components: the teaching practice register , mentor's assessment card and teaching portfolio

with 5 lesson plans.
